Application Process

We encourage applications from bright, motivated and well-rounded students in the Greater Hartford area. The Admissions Committee looks for evidence of strong levels of academic achievement; talent and interest in the arts, athletics and/or community service; and indications of leadership in extracurricular activities.

The information below outlines the application process.

Step 1: Request Information

Please click here to submit an inquiry form. Once received, you will be mailed a welcome packet and be put on the list to receive information on admissions events and important deadlines.

Step 2: Schedule an Interview and Campus Tour

This required visit lasts approximately 90 minutes and may be arranged through your inquiry form when you request information or application account. You can also call our office at 860-727-5000 to schedule.

Step 3: Apply Online

There are two online application options listed below. KO has no preference as to which application is used, so please choose the one that works best for your family. The application fee will be charged via credit card at the time of your submission. To access additional application materials through KOs online portal, you must submit the payment for the application first.

1. Kingswood Oxford Online Application

2. SSAT Online Application (available for Upper School applicants only)

Step 4: Submit Application Forms

The following items are required to complete an application. These forms can be submitted online once you create an application account. The due date for all items is February 1, 2017. After February 1, application items will be accepted on a rolling basis.

School Report and Transcript Request Form & Transcripts

Current Math Teacher Recommendation

Current English Teacher Recommendation

School Writing Sample - This should be a graded paper, report or essay that was completed for a class assignment during the current school year.

Optional Recommendation - Applicants may ask one additional person to complete a recommendation on their behalf.

Financial Aid application (optional) -  If you are applying for Financial aid, you must also complete the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) online by February 1. Once you submit your PFS, you will be given instructions about submitting additional documents. Please also be sure to indicate on your admissions application you will be applying for financial aid.

Step 5: Entrance Tests

Applicants to our Middle School (gr. 6-8) are required to take the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test, Eighth Edition (OLSAT 8). This test is designed to assess the applicant's aptitude, not their level of achievement, and therefore, no preparation is necessary. The OLSAT is a 40-minute timed, multiple-choice assessment and is administered by the Admissions Office on KO's campus on select dates. (Applicants may submit Middle Level SSAT test results in lieu of taking the OLSAT). The testing fee is $30 and is due at time of registration. Now that the February 1 deadline has passed, testing will be administered by appointment only. Please call the Admissions Office to schedule the OLSAT.

Applicants to our Upper School (gr. 9-12) are required to take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). Students must register with SSAT directly. KO's school code is 4414. (Applicants to grade 11 may submit their PSAT or SAT scores in lieu of the SSAT.)
